If you love music and live in Central Ohio, you’ve probably seen the work of Clinton Reno a time or two. He’s been designing and printing posters for concerts locally and globally for ten years, and I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with him on the redesign and relaunch of his web site, ClintonReno.com
As you might expect, Clint has a really good eye for design so the visual aspect was completely taken care of by him prior to my development work. Since the blog component of his site has always been WordPress based, we agreed that it made the most sense to simply develop a new theme for his site and work from there. Using the Photoshop documents he provided as a guide, I built a custom theme built on top of the _s starter theme utilizing responsive CSS3 and HTML5 standards.
Although his blog has always been WordPress based, the e-commerce component was previously handled by a custom PHP application. We agreed that, as long as we were doing an overhaul, it made sense to bring his catalog and shopping cart into WordPress as well. Using Custom Content Types Manager, we made specific administration sections for prints, shirts and event content types. Using some jQuery selectors, we also implemented a filtering and sorting system so that site visitors can find the exact print or shirt they’re looking for.
The end result is a WordPress-based site that’s simple enough that adding new prints and shirts is a two-minute process, but complex enough that fans of Clint’s work are able to search through this art effectively and make purchases easily. Some additional plugins that were used in the site include Gravity Forms, Easy Instagram, and Facebook Comments.
