Captain's Log Week 19: Growing Like a Weed

The Captain has been growing like crazy this week, and January's body has not taken too kindly to it. While we haven't specifically felt any kicks, prods, or pokes yet, we're pretty sure little baby is pretty active in there, trying to get comfortable. Some days find January with a constant pressure on her lower left side that she's pretty sure is The Captain trying to get repositioned. It sounds cute, but the result of this movement is that occasionally January is unable to move her left foot in front of the right, and instead has to do a sort of sideways shuffle to get anywhere. But I guess if we're choosing between the nausea of the first trimester and the discomfort of the second, she'll take the growing pains any day of the week.

January has never been a big fan of eggs, but from what I understand they are an excellent source of pretty much everything that a pregnant lady needs -- protein, vitamins A, D, B12 -- so we've been trying to find some ways to prepare them that she can enjoy. She does like eggs benedict, so I took a shot at poaching eggs this week with some decent success. I nailed the poached egg, but haven't quite gotten the hang of hollandaise sauce yet. Here's one of my better looking attempts.

January also finished up her out-of-town wedding cycle this past weekend, so no more air transportation for Captain Bojangles. We are both looking forward to our week and a half in North Carolina next week, though, and hopefully baby will let her travel in the car relatively comfortably.  Apart from the amazing looking forcast, I think what we're looking forward to the most is the private pool that comes along with the beach house we're renting. I hear that swimming is a good way for pregnant ladies to keep active without the need to deal with all the new joint pain, so I fully expect that we'll spend the majority of our days next week lazing by the pool, swimming, or napping... and still growing this baby.
